Virgin Music Fest was fantastic, so much energy and I'm so tired from it.
Saw:
Lupe Fiasco, Bloc Party, Off Spring, Japanese Beatles Band, Chuck Berry (man what a pedophile), and the Muther Fucking FOO FIGHTERS (Amazing).
longest 12 hours of my life but I had a blast, pictures to come!

In retrospect I should have taken these photos sideways? But the trigger button is so shitty it pissed me off.  Still!  Not bad for a camera phone.

Times to think about

Jul. 27th, 2008 | 04:16 am

This week has been a quite a derivative to a trigonometric function,  with every great news comes bad news.
I did a bit of soul searching this week, being sick and spending long nights when everyone else is asleep will normally do that.

I had forgotten how it was normal to see people past 2am Online, and now my buddylist is in single digits.

I had set a few goals for myself in life, to become a professor and to have a family.  It seems thus far I'm on track for one of those, it's also made me re-evaluate what I'm currently doing and to try to take my life more seriously.

As for the second goal, I think that will take a backseat to my current Business and Academic settings.  I know it's a common complaint amongst engineers especially with our varying degrees of bachelor-hood.  (Mike you suck).  I actually seriously tried to setup an eHarmony profile just to see what kind of people are looking.  After looking at so many matches and so many profiles it strikes me that eHarmony isn't right for me.

eHarmony is made for people who aren't looking for a parnter, it's for people who are looking for the one.  I'm approaching that age group where people aren't just looking for "I had fun with him/her" but "I can wake up every morning with that face looking at me".  eHarmony actually setup one of my mother's girlfriends with her current fiancee.

I then realized through a simple question that I'm not looking for one thing but rather I'm looking for anything.   Yes people are right that you'll never know someone unless you break that stranger boundary, but I know now that I have no clue what I'm looking for and even if it were to lay on my lap I would not know what to do with it.

Weekend

Jun. 26th, 2008 | 04:38 pm
location: in your mouth
mood: artistic artistic
music: Savage SublimeGarden

Self Update: └0╜
The development team has moved out of our cubicles and how we have commandeered a lab office with A HUGE WINDOW VIEW. I got 4th pick due to seniority but I still find myself facing east with a wonderful view of trees and the Nortel Networks Building :P. It feels nice to have the sun come down on you when you walk into the office. Takes away from the cold and heartless AC that billows from the nearby server room~

I'm definitely going to purchase a new Keyboard / Piano as soon as my finger heals. I've been hearing Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Debussy in my dreams as well as some self-alterations of set pieces. I want to see how they will sound when I play them.

Future Predictions: è_è
Nick will watch this:

The Robototo: \\[o=o]//
I'm excited about Wall-E this Friday.  I fancied myself for having a date for the movie but then reality hit me like Knights of the Round with double-cast so I'll try to arrange something for the 20171 and extended border people.

Oguns, Mark, Nick, Brian, JJ, Eric, and Others.  Who's up for some hot Serial-Interface action!!?!??

Software Software Software

Jun. 21st, 2008 | 03:08 am

It's what I make at work and what I play with at home.

The past 2 weeks have been very exciting in the computer science field.  One of the big anoucements is that Java will not be Open Sourced and follow GPL guidelines.  Also Firefox 3 and Spore Creature Creator have been publicly released to great fanfare (spore with 400,000 monsters made in 2 days, firefox 8 million downloaded in 1 day).  I guess 3G iPhone is kinda important.... I'll talk more about that later.

Firefox 3
Firefox fills the empty holes where the previous verson could not.  Mainly in the area of Javascript and memory usage.  Long-Term memory usage in Firefox has been greatly improved from the memory leak issues of Firefox 2.  Some noticable graphic chages are "Highlight and Drag" text function which allows you to drag text from any highlighted section as you've been able to do before BUT this time you can see the text you drag in the same manner as when you drag folders on the desktop.

The overall loading times have not been signficantly better.  On tests run in comparison to Safari, IE, and Opera.  Firefox doesn't show any spectacular leads in terms of speed.  But as always the main reason why Firefox has such a good base is because of the applications and add-ons that users can create and add to their browser.  There are still many bugs I've personally noticed on this version regarding add-on implementation but for the most part it has been a smooth ride.

Spore Creature Creator
EA / Maxis released their Spore Creature Creator this week and anyone who has seen my spam of Youtube embedded links knows that I've been tinkering around with this thing every night.  I have to admit I haven't had this much fun for a long time.  Most of it comes from the creative control I assert over my creations and also the clever algorhtims which EA users to translate body location and function into a moving animal.  I've seen some truely great creations done by the Maxis team as well as amateur users.  (XBOX 360 Controller, Jar-Jar,..... Lots of Penis Monsters).

I'm very excited about the full-game's September release and I hope the rest of you join me in my galaxy.

iPhone. 3G.
Last but not lease in full-marketing flavor comes the iPhone!  After a year of Re-Pricing, Jail-breaking, SDK-Teasing, and market analyst rumors the iPhone 3G has come to life.  But on a serious note here.  How many people in the US actually have acess to a 3G network?  From my point of view the best feature added to the new iPhone is the GPS.  The iPhone stand currently in a strange grey-area of cell phones.  It doesn't have the easy press numbers of a standard phone, nor does it have the key-pad needed for a smart phone.  For the sake of owning a phone the iPhone doesn't really fit in.  It has a rich UI (perhaps the best in the business not including Andriod) and is stylishly simple.  Not to mention now the 8 gig version is available for only $199.

Not to mention Apple has been releasing their iPhone SDK for sometime although it's not perfect yet.  This gives the iPhone an incredible library of applications to use, although I bet Facebook / MySpace apples will be predominant as well as "Horoscope" and versions of teteris and snake.

Personally I even find my "rich" Razr2 to be a peice of trash with all the multi-functionality that it gloats about.  The lack of the OS to support multi-processes / threads kills me on the inside.  I rarely even use most of the functions on my Razr2 because the components are internet based and 90% of my time is around a computer.

Then again I wouldn't turn an iPhone down if someone gave it to me for free...
But I'm still awaiting Google's Android OS.  Too bad I haven't given myself the time to tinker around with the SDK which is lying on my desktop...

More SPore!

Jun. 20th, 2008 | 01:39 am

Brian Ho:

This animal is now on the endangered list after a vicious war was raged against hookies for the mascot of Virginia Tech. Our specimen Hobie demonstrates a plum abdomen which is common as the diet of these birds is commonly coffee beans or left over Chinese food. Typically this animal is a scavenger and compulsively grabs anything which is free. Unfortunately the Brian species is in a decline as they have difficult times during mating and courting resulting in "let's just be friend" scenarios.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-g_j39794F8

Marty:

The San Jose species has been under much scruteny from the scientific as to whether it belongs in the animal kingdom or the plant kingdom as the creature's body resembles a peanut. The young of this species are raised by often forced labor the adults often carrying the elders around in make shift barrels or crates. The lower body of the species has grown a thick armor from protection against the vicious pen-in-butt species and the kidney-shot species which prey on the defenseless San Joses.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vDNFQinwco

Victor:

The Victor species the first species to leave its home planet and frequently revisits its homeland in times of leisure and worship. The mandibles of this creature are impressive as 2 huge Fists studded with Bones are it's primary form of attack. Rumor has it that this is actually not bone but a sort of "earring" which gives it a very distinct look. Also this species has a very powerful gluteous muscle which for some reason attracts other species which is a pian for the Victor species as it has no desire to mate with other species. Also the victor species has multiple eyes for near 360 degree view which a good way to watch its own ass.

Last One

Jun. 19th, 2008 | 12:42 am

Elly:

Elly's species is a very proud female lead race. Although it can be difficult determine the male and female aspect of the race as the females have both sexual organs and the males do not have any. Males of this race normally conduct a worker and labor environment while the females produce and lead once they can no longer lay eggs. The penis on Elly is quite large and can easily be mistaken for a Tool or Leg but it is actually the reproductive organ. Although this race lacks hands, the majority of work is done with the horns with males having much larger horns than the female for better work. Most of the time this species stays underground indie.

Diana and Nick!!!

Jun. 19th, 2008 | 12:05 am

Diana in Spore!

Diana is the producer of the show "The Deadliest Catch" and avoid public attention due to her hands which are claws. This doesn't prevent her from working in a lab with 4 eyes. Diana's species stopped development on their wings due to a decrease in gas prices 20,000 years ago. Instead her species developed a 3rd leg as well as hair which is a first.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-UbmzV8AIM

Nick in Spore!

Nick is of the highly effective "Beach Flip Flop" species with hands on the top and bottom of Torso! Nick's vibrate colored skin draws him much attention especially when you realize his face is in his abdomen and not on the top!!!! Nick normally adds a Ruhel feather to his butt to make it smell better.

Yes JJ has a Mace for a head, and he has a poisonous asshole.

Eric is ready to PARTY. His short body and limbs allow for maximum party allowance. Don't get in his way or he'll pierce you with his shoulder.

This has got to be the worst week of my life.  I basically spent monday/tuesday druggedup, throwing up, dizzy, and in constant pain.  My body is getting used to the mdication sop I can actually eat solid food now but my mind is spiraling in every direction looking for help and comfort.  Percocet isn't an "option" anymore as I need to have it to get away from it all.  Angeline I wish your mom the best on her chemo.
